Abstract:

Oxidative stress is a possible risk factor of glaucoma, but its role involving in the mechanism of glaucoma hasn’t been well understood. Researches have
confirmed significant change of oxidative stress markers in samples from glaucoma patients including ocular specimens such as aqueous humor, trabecular meshwork and peripheral blood. Obvious change of oxidant or antioxidant level and pronounced presence of oxidative stress damage markers strongly prompted the imbalance between oxidant status and antioxidant status, which might play an important role in glaucomatous damage. Detection and analysis of oxidative stress markers profile in various samples, which combined with ophthalmic examination, would provide vital clues for clinical laboratory diagnosis and research of glaucoma. So in this review, current researches of oxidative stress markers in glaucoma will be discussed.(Int Rev Ophthalmol, 2016, 40: 369-374)
